In Church News Today this Thursday, Oct. 2:

Eight new chapters have been released recently in “Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Russell M. Nelson.” The online resource has 18 chapters so far with embedded videos, invitations and blessings for people to study in Gospel Library.

Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Michigan Stake say they immediately prayed for help as word of Sunday’s shooting reached them during their own Church meetings several miles away. They feel shock and sadness but are finding ways to comfort and help each other.

The 100th temple was dedicated 25 years ago on Oct. 1, 2000. Now, there are 208 dedicated temples, with 174 more announced or under construction, and temples bless families and nations, standing as monuments of faith, sacrifice and prophetic vision.

We live in perilous times, when temptations are rampant and the standards of the world are very different from the standards of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is a time when we cannot be casual about our own discipleship.

The prophet and the temple point us to Jesus Christ. They are powerful blessings the Lord has given us to help separate good from evil, understand our true purpose in mortality, and truly become His disciples.

Elder Gérald Caussé called as newest Apostle

President Dallin H. Oaks announced the calling of Elder Gérald Caussé as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Thursday, Nov. 6.

He fills a vacancy that was left in the quorum after the death of President Russell M. Nelson. Elder Caussé, 62, was ordained on Thursday, Nov. 6, by President Dallin H. Oaks and the other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Elder Caussé had been serving as the presiding bishop of the Church at the time of his call.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson told 270 government leaders gathered in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, that service fosters unity and bridges faith and civic responsibility.

“When you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only in the service of your God. This includes the professional service that you are rendering,” the Apostle in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints told members of the National League of Cities (NLC). “True disciples build, lift, encourage, persuade and inspire, no matter how difficult the situation.”

In His restored Church, we are all better when no one sits alone. Let us not simply accommodate or tolerate. Let us genuinely welcome, acknowledge, minister to, love.

In Church News Today this Friday, Nov. 28:

Missionaries at the Provo Missionary Training Center assembled 500,000 meals in a Thanksgiving day service project. They worked in 13 assembly lines in the parking garage, with the food provided by the Bishops’ Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City. The meals will go to food pantries to give to people in need.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worked with the Food Bank of Alaska to provide thousands of Thanksgiving dinners around the state. The event, called “Thanksgiving Blessing,” took place over two days. Church members and full-time missionaries served the food at several of the sites.

Christmas lights turn on tonight at Temple Square in Salt Lake City. The display lasts through New Year’s Day. While renovation continues on the Salt Lake Temple, many locations on Temple Square are open to guests with Christ-centered displays and free activities.

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints study the Old Testament in “Come, Follow Me” this coming year, a General Handbook update gives them more flexibility with Bible translations. Leaders say multiple translations can help readers of all backgrounds and reading abilities better understand God’s word. Church editions are still recommended for classes and meetings, and members are encouraged to rely on Latter-day Saint standard works, including the Book of Mormon and modern prophets, when doctrinal differences appear. Dedication and open house dates for the Bacolod Philippines Temple have been announced. After an April open house, Elder Neil L. Andersen will dedicate the house of the Lord on May 26, one of three temples to be dedicated in the Philippines in early 2026, doubling the total there from three to six.

The San Jose temple, announced in April 2023, has been renamed the Sunnyvale California Temple to better reflect its planned location. And pre-groundbreaking work is set to begin at the Fairview Texas Temple site.
